Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

Experience the charm of New Orleans at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. Cobblestone streets, wrought-iron balconies, colorful Mardi Gras touches and jazz-inspired details create a fun yet relaxed atmosphere.

French Quarter is a great choice for guests who want the amenities of a Disney Moderate Resort without the sprawling layout found at many Walt Disney World Resorts. You’ll also enjoy boat transportation to Disney Springs and easy access to neighboring Port Orleans – Riverside.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter at a Glance

Why Stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter?

One of French Quarter’s biggest advantages is its compact size.

Compared with resorts such as Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs and neighboring Riverside, French Quarter is much easier to navigate. That can mean less walking between your room, dining, pool and transportation.

The atmosphere is another big selling point. Cobblestone streets, gas lamps, wrought-iron balconies and colorful Mardi Gras touches create the feeling of New Orleans throughout the resort.

It’s fun enough for families but still has a relaxed atmosphere that makes it one of my favorite Moderate options for couples and adults.

Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

The rooms at French Quarter are straightforward, which makes choosing a room category relatively easy.

Current options include:

  • Standard Location: 2 Queen Beds
  • Preferred Location: 2 Queen Beds
  • King Bed: 1 King Bed

Standard and Preferred rooms accommodate up to four adults. King rooms accommodate up to two adults.

Rooms also include a beverage cooler, coffee maker, complimentary Wi-Fi, hair dryer, safe, iron and ironing board.

Are Preferred Rooms Worth It?

Because French Quarter is already a compact resort, this decision is a little different than it is at Riverside or Caribbean Beach.

Preferred Rooms are located close to the lobby, dining, shopping and transportation.

For guests who want the most convenient location possible, Preferred can still be worthwhile. However, guests who don’t mind a little walking may be perfectly happy with a Standard Room.

That’s one of the advantages of staying at French Quarter—you generally don’t have to worry as much about ending up extremely far from the main resort amenities.

Doubloon Lagoon Pool

French Quarter has one main feature pool, Doubloon Lagoon, with a fun Mardi Gras theme.

The centerpiece is Scales, a 51-foot-long sea serpent waterslide. The pool area also features an alligator jazz band, whirlpool spa and nearby Mardi Grogs pool bar.

Water Play Area

Families with younger children will also find a themed water-play area near Doubloon Lagoon.

Disney limits this area to children 48 inches tall or shorter.

You Can Also Use Riverside’s Pools

Here’s a nice perk that’s worth mentioning on your page.

French Quarter guests can also enjoy the pools at neighboring Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, including the Ol’ Man Island pool complex and its 95-foot waterslide.

That gives families more pool choices than you might expect from French Quarter’s smaller size.

Dining at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

French Quarter currently offers four dining and lounge options.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is the resort’s primary quick-service restaurant.

You’ll find American and Cajun/Creole-inspired choices in a colorful setting influenced by Mardi Gras.

Scat Cat’s Club – Café

This is one of the things French Quarter is particularly known for:

Mickey-shaped beignets!

Scat Cat’s Club – Café is a great place to stop for the resort’s famous beignets and other treats.

Scat Cat’s Club – Lounge

For adults looking to relax in the evening, Scat Cat’s Club – Lounge offers drinks and a New Orleans-inspired atmosphere.

Mardi Grogs

Mardi Grogs is located near Doubloon Lagoon and serves as the resort’s pool bar.

French Quarter does not have a table-service restaurant. However, you can easily head over to Riverside for additional dining choices.

Transportation at Port Orleans – French Quarter

French Quarter offers both bus and water transportation.

Boat Transportation to Disney Springs

One of the resort’s best perks is the relaxing boat ride along the Sassagoula River to Disney Springs.

For guests who enjoy dining, shopping or spending an evening at Disney Springs, this is a great transportation option.

Disney Bus Transportation

Disney buses provide transportation between French Quarter and the Walt Disney World theme parks.

Unlike Caribbean Beach, French Quarter does not have Disney Skyliner transportation.

Recreation at Port Orleans – French Quarter

Beyond the pool, activities may include:

  • Cajun campfire activities
  • Movies Under the Stars
  • Bike rentals
  • Surrey bike rentals
  • Fishing
  • Access to additional recreation at Riverside

Because Riverside is just a walk away, guests can enjoy amenities and recreation at both Port Orleans Resorts.

Things to Consider Before Booking French Quarter

French Quarter doesn’t have as many amenities within the resort itself as some other Disney Moderate Resorts.

There is no table-service restaurant, and Disney buses are the primary transportation to the theme parks. There is also no Skyliner access.

However, Riverside is nearby when you want additional dining, pools or recreation.

For many guests, the trade-off is worthwhile because French Quarter offers something that’s difficult to find elsewhere at Walt Disney World: a smaller Moderate Resort that’s easy to get around.
