Disney classifies the Polynesian as a Deluxe Resort in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area.
The Polynesian Resort Experience
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of the most distinctive resorts at Walt Disney World.
Rather than one large hotel building, accommodations are spread among several longhouses surrounded by tropical landscaping and winding pathways. At the center of the resort is the Great Ceremonial House, home to restaurants, shops, lounges and the monorail station.
The resort has a relaxed atmosphere that feels very different from spending the day inside a busy theme park. Palm trees, tropical music, tiki torches and views across Seven Seas Lagoon help make returning to the resort feel like a vacation within your vacation.
And while the atmosphere is relaxing, you’re still incredibly close to Magic Kingdom.
That combination of tropical escape and theme park convenience is what makes the Polynesian so special.

Standard rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are spacious and feature a tropical design with Disney touches inspired by Moana.

Here’s one of my favorite Polynesian transportation tips:
While guests can take the Resort Monorail and transfer to the EPCOT Monorail, the Transportation and Ticket Center is also within walking distance of the Polynesian.
That means Polynesian guests can walk to the TTC and board the EPCOT Monorail there, making this one of the more convenient Magic Kingdom-area resorts for visiting EPCOT.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios & Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Complimentary Disney bus transportation is available.
Disney Springs
Bus transportation is also available to Disney Springs.
🍽️ Dining at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Dining is one of the highlights of staying at the Polynesian. From character breakfasts and family-style dinners to quick-service favorites and tropical cocktails, there are plenty of choices without leaving the resort. Disney currently lists 11 dining options at the Polynesian.
‘Ohana
One of Walt Disney World’s most popular resort restaurants, ‘Ohana is located inside the Great Ceremonial House.
Breakfast offers a family-style meal in a fun island setting, while dinner features Polynesian-inspired flavors served family-style.
Kona Café
Kona Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu that combines familiar favorites with Asian and island-inspired flavors.
It’s a great choice when you want a sit-down meal without leaving the resort.
Capt. Cook’s
The Polynesian’s primary quick-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night options.
It’s convenient for grabbing something before heading to the parks or having an easy meal back at the resort.
Pineapple Lanai
You don’t have to enter a theme park to get one of Disney’s most famous treats.
Pineapple Lanai serves DOLE Whip, making it a very popular stop during a Polynesian stay.

The Electrical Water Pageant also makes its way around Seven Seas Lagoon in the evening, adding another little piece of classic Walt Disney World magic to a Polynesian stay.
🌴 A Resort Worth Spending Time At
The Polynesian is one of those Disney resorts where I recommend planning time to actually enjoy the resort.
Have a leisurely breakfast, spend an afternoon at the Lava Pool, grab a DOLE Whip, walk along the lagoon and enjoy the tiki torches after dark.
This is especially important when comparing Deluxe Resorts. You’re paying for more than just a place to sleep, the resort itself is part of the experience.
For families who enjoy having a resort day or taking afternoon breaks from the parks, the Polynesian is particularly appealing.
